From Backyard Beach Chef to Buzzing Business

When childhood friends Jason Weir (Jay) and Oshane Williams (Oshea) were faced with an economic challenge several years ago, they started to think in a creative way to plan their next move in life.

With Jay (@Portland876 on instagram) being a social media savant and Oshea a self-taught chef, the two told kareemsquest.com that they started to ponder how they could create meaningful employment for themselves.

Beachside Bites Turn Viral

One day while Oshea was cooking on the beach, which is something he used to do for casual socials, Jay decided to video him.

“I posted the video for the fun of it and it went viral. It got thousands of views within days and persons started to contact us, asking if they could visit us for the food,” Jay revealed to kareemsquest.com.

This casual cooking session on the beach, sparked a social media storm, which ignited their entrepreneurial spirit.

Backyard Becomes Paradise

With this new-found fame the two started to work, in a resilient manner, towards making their backyard a place where persons would want to spend the day.

4 places you must Stay in Portland, Jamaica

This is an embodiment of the spirit of many Norwich residents, as it is similar to the story that kareemsquest.com did with Glen, who sells breadfruit in the area.

Fortunately for them, on the outskirts of their backyard in Baptist Lane, is a beautiful beach, which provides the perfect backdrop for Oshea’s Kitchen. The two have kept the area clean and decorated it with the Jamaican colours, to provide a tidy and conducive atmosphere for guests to enjoy themselves, making it one of our must-visit spots for our Portland adventures.

Finding Oshea’s Kitchen

On the main road leading to the venue, is a sign which points to their establishment, which is a two-minutes drive away. Once you are at the location, someone will direct you where to park and from there you make your way to the beach.

One of the many things that KareemsQuest.com likes about the property is that there are several trees on the beach, which provide shade for guests.

We also observed that they employ many persons from the neighbourhood to assist with the operations.
