Janga, Crayfish, Bussu, what’s so special? Eating at Berrydale, Portland

Berrydale is some distance from Port Antonio’s main road and kinda embodies the term, ‘off the beaten path.’ The journey to get there takes you through lesser-known communities, that are filled with folk stories and residents who are happy to share them.

Fortunately for kareemsquest.com, when we arrived at a central spot in Berrydale some young men were stringing up a sound system to keep a street dance, later in the evening. Several tents were erected and the chef had finished preparing all the meals.

The first place we headed was to the food station, where the soup of the day had Janga and Bussu in it. These are popular ingredients for Portlanders as kareemsquest.com was told on our visit to Ambassabeth Eco Lodge (click the link to read about this great place)

The soup tasted great and we wanted to savour every moment, so we found a rock under a shade and listened to the locals chat while we sipped our soup.

If you want to hear from a resident, Passa Passa, talking more about Bussu, crayfish and Janga soup, check the video below.
