Man turns childhood community into Adventure Playground

This hidden attraction, in the community of Cascade St. Mary, offers an array of activities that promise to leave you breathless and wanting more. As I embarked on my journey to uncover the secrets of Blue Adventure Tours, I was captivated by the tales of its founder, Audi Irving, whose vision has transformed this once humble locale into a thriving hub of excitement. “My entire family is from Cascade, I used to go to Newstead Primary. As a matter of fact, the same place that I am operating from used to be my Basic school. Back then Blue Hole was not so popular and we had community cookouts on weekends,” Irving revealed.

As I navigated through the picturesque community, guided by the iconic Blue Adventure tours signs, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation building within me. Meeting Irving, shed light on the deep-rooted connection he shares with his homeland. His passion for Jamaica is palpable, evident in every aspect of Blue Adventure Tours. “I have been in the states for close to two decades and my heart is alway in Jamaica. I was constantly looking for business opportunities and my wife, Rakeem, kept encouraging me to pursue it further.”

An Immersive Experience Awaits

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the sight of the establishment’s name adorning its entrance, a promise of the adventures that lay ahead. The reception area, outfitted with recreational amenities, serves as the perfect prelude to the excitement that awaits.

From pool tables to table tennis, there’s no shortage of ways to unwind before embarking on your chosen adventure.

Additionally, a selection of memorabilia and swimwear awaits those seeking a memento of their unforgettable experience.

Embarking on Thrilling Adventures

Blue Adventure Tours offers three main activities, each promising a unique glimpse into the beauty of rural Jamaica. “I think we have one of the best locations in Jamaica, you look at the beautiful Blue Hole and then we have direct access to the Spanish Bridge. We are one of the tours that take you through a traditional rural Jamaican community.”

Horseback Riding: A Majestic Journey

Under the expert guidance of tour guide Wayne, I embarked on a journey atop majestic steeds, traversing rugged terrain and lush landscapes. Constantly adjusting the stirrup strap and the straddle to ensure that the rider is in the ideal position. From there you are told how to hold the reins to control the horses movements.Wayne’s dedication to safety and patience ensured that even novice riders felt at ease, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience.

ATV Ride: A Thrilling Expedition

This is a 25-mins journey, which takes you on a round trip to the famous Spanish Bridge.

First, a trial run is done to ensure participants are comfortable, I saw some people opting to be passengers on a dune bug, driven by a tour guide. This is something I encourage people to do if they are having the slightest problem maneuvering the ATV.

We then headed on the main road, passing through the Newstead community, which has a lovely Methodist Church perched on a hill.

The sight seeing doesn’t stop there, as close to the church is an old time Jamaican home, with clinker wood and zinc roof. I spoke with the second-generation owner who said that his grandparents insisted the house remains untouched.

As we rode further up the narrow winding street we made another stop at a unique looking cave. This is also where the tour guide gives a lesson about the various plants.

There is another stop by a water sprout, which is ideal for photo taking and having some fun with the participants.

The final stop is at the Spanish bridge, which is a very active community, where the latest dancehall music is played loudly. What stands out the most is how pristine the turquoise water looks. Participants are encouraged to take a dip or if they are really brave they can choose to swing from the bridge into the water.

This spot is also where the River tubing begins. Where you go down a meandering path that’s filled with excitement and unpredictable turns.

I recommend doing this as a bundled package with the ATV ride as it has the best of both worlds.

Indulging in Local Flavors

After a day filled with adventure, hunger pangs led me to the onsite restaurant, where I savored a delicious serving of curry goat with rice and cold vegetables. As I dined amidst the vibrant atmosphere, I couldn’t help but admire Irving’s commitment to enhancing both the visitor experience and the local community. “There aren’t a lot of places on the river that provide a proper restaurant, so I wanted guests to have somewhere they can eat and enjoy themselves before and after the tour.”

Giving Back to the Community

Irving’s dedication extends beyond business success, as he remains deeply invested in the betterment of his community. “As a child, I attended both churches in my community and they did a lot in molding me into the person I am now.” Through initiatives such as annual back-to-school treats and community football, he aims to uplift and empower those around him, ensuring that Blue Adventure Tours leaves a lasting impact.
