If there’s one parish in Jamaica that I crave to explore more, it’s Hanover. Located outside the tourist district of Montego Bay, a little town named Hopewell beckons with a quieter charm. Here, perched on a hill overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea, is a comfortable spot, Mosaic Luxury Villa.

The building has a light blue façade, accented with crisp white trim and a dark grey roof. The design is sophisticated, yet the multiple balconies and covered patio hint at the relaxed, island living this villa promises. A private pool and lush landscaping complete the picture of tropical paradise. In addition, the solar panels glint on the roof, a reflection of the owner’s commitment to sustainability – a big plus in my book.
A Villa Steeped in Determination
The story behind Mosaic Luxury Villa is as captivating as the villa itself. Built by Theresa Campbell, a returning resident who toiled for years in Boston, the villa is a testament to her hard work and unwavering dream.
“When I was tiling, I hated working in the snow,” Campbell confided, “I was always miserable, but I knew that one day I would be able to return home.” A woman of both style and grit, Campbell’s toned physique speaks volumes about her resilience.
“I left Jamaica in my teens,” she continues, “and from the moment I landed on US soil, I had a plan in my head.” Our conversation unfolds in the garden area, a haven shaded by a mango tree with a sofa overlooking the endless blue.
Before elaborating on her personal journey, Campbell points out, “You should see this area at night. We have lights that decorate the place, and when you look out you can see the cruise ships passing by.”

As we meander towards the pool, she picks up the thread of her story. “This villa took close to 17 years to build, and during the recession years in 2008, I had to stop everything.” But she is not one to give up. Her voice rings with pride as she acknowledges the support system that saw her through the rough times. “My husband has been in my corner helping in any way possible, as well as some key family members. They help to keep me grounded and cheerful on challenging days.”
A Luxurious Escape Designed for Sharing
Standing poolside, Campbell reveals, “This is the chill spot for most of my guests. When they arrive, the first thing they do is go to the pool. They ask about the bluetooth speakers and the hot tub, then the party starts.” The pool area boasts a photo spot, perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy moments, and an infinity edge pool that seamlessly blends with the horizon, creating an illusion of swimming into the sky.
Campbell has a keen understanding of her clientele. Many of her guests are women celebrating birthdays, and she has created a package that caters to their needs. “When they come, by the second day they want to visit a lot of places and would always ask me to recommend transportation. So I invested in a tour bus and included free transportation in the package.” They even offer free one-way airport pickup, taking the hassle out of arrival.
My personal favorite spot is the second-floor balcony, offering a panoramic view of the area. “This is my favourite spot also to sit in the mornings and in the evenings when the sun is setting,” Campbell says, a hint of serenity in her voice.
Stepping Inside the Mosaic
Mosaic Luxury Villa boasts six spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, ensuring privacy and relaxation for every guest. Bold pops of color adorn the décor, with bright runners and cushions accenting the sofas. Bold paintings add personality to the walls, while contemporary fixtures throughout the villa lend a touch of modern elegance. The dining area and living room are also located on the second floor.
For those seeking a bit of solitude, a third-floor bedroom provides a private sanctuary.
“When I was living in the states, sometimes I would work an entire day and in the back of my mind I kept envisioning my villa,” she shares. “So now that it has become a reality, I am overwhelmed.”
