Local Recommendations

Intrigued, I consulted a dreadlocked local, Oral, who owns a laid-back villa close by.  “That there, boss,” he grinned, bottle of beer in hand, “is the new hotspot in Belmont. Karaoke nights and lively dancing till the sand cools.”

A Beachfront Oasis

I navigated my vehicle past the fence, the crunch of car tires on the sand-strewn parking lot a rhythmic counterpoint to the reggae music wafting from the restaurant. Lush almond trees cast dappled shade on the verdant lawn, dotted with brightly coloured umbrellas sheltering tables.

The shoreline, a victim of rising tides, revealed the stark reality of climate change. Yet, the sea breeze, laced with the salty tang of the ocean, carried an undeniable allure. Danish tourists, bronzed from days on the beach, lounged on nearby chairs.

Stepping Inside

Stepping past the entrance, flanked by a tempting jerk chicken shack, I found myself amidst a charming tablescape. The lawn, dotted with zoysia grass, offered a relaxed dining option.

Closer to the beach, a picture-perfect spot boasted the restaurant’s sign amidst a backdrop of meticulously arranged artificial plants – an ideal spot for capturing memories.

A Tranquil Escape

But it was the rustic oasis tucked away behind this picture-taking spot that truly stole my heart. A wooden table and chairs, canopied by the leaves of an almond tree, offered a front-row seat to the majestic Caribbean Sea. Glistening waves danced in the sunlight, punctuated by the calls of seagulls diving for their lunch.

Warm Hospitality

As I relaxed, a petite Indian woman named Sash, her hair neatly styled in a bun, approached with a warm smile. “Are you alright, sir? Can I interest you in something to eat?”

“Just soaking it all in,” I replied, gesturing to the breathtaking view.

Her eyes widened as she recognised the logo on my shirt. “You’re Kareem’s Quest! You travel all around Jamaica!”

Smiling, I confirmed her guess. Before I could decline, her infectious enthusiasm propelled me on a whirlwind tour.

Exploring the Treehouse

The first stop was a vibrant yellow, red, and green treehouse nestled at the back of the property. Gentle steps led to a tranquil haven, perfect for escaping the midday sun. “Free to use,” Sash explained, “as long as you grab a bite from the restaurant!”

With the rhythmic sounds of the waves as a soundtrack, we swung on a nearby swing, the salty breeze whispering secrets in my ears. Ever the gracious host, Sash insisted on showing me more.

A Look Inside

Our next stop was a pristine bathroom – “Look how pretty it looks! I cleaned it myself this morning,” she declared with a touch of pride.

We then peeked into the spacious bar, a classic layout with an open area that could transform into a dance floor on rainy days. Stools lined a well-stocked counter, promising tropical libations.

Upstairs, a liming area in its final stages of construction hinted at future possibilities. “Perfect for birthdays and parties,” Sash explained, “offering nice views of the sea.” This, she proclaimed, would be the crown jewel of Blue Ocean Sands.

A Culinary Adventure

Our discussion turned to the culinary delights. Sash, with the authority of a seasoned foodie, declared her favourites: “The curry shrimp with coconut milk, the curry crab, and the escovitch fish – you can’t go wrong!”

Farewell and Recommendations

With an immersive experience and a heart brimming with the joy of discovery, I bid farewell to Blue Ocean Sands. It’s a place that whispers promises of delicious food, vibrant atmosphere, and a slice of Jamaican niceness.
