Location: Mammee bay, Ocho Rios

The enormity of the Riu Ocho Rios resort is the first thing one would notice upon arriving at the property followed by the intricate design of its lobby. The elevated ceiling, prominent wood and ironwork, and shiny granite countertops gives the lobby an airy, comfortable feeling.

However the real clincher of the lobby is the magnificent view of aqua-blue water, bathing the bone white sand of the beach. For kareemsquest.com, the uniqueness of the lobby extends to the rooms themselves which contain extremely comfortable beds, mini bar, a tv, and air conditioning which you can adjust to your liking. In addition, each room has a balcony which overlooks the Riu property.

In 2005 Ocho Rios experienced the grand opening of the five star, all inclusive Riu Hotel. Managed by Riu Hotels and Company, Ocho Rios was deemed the ideal location due to its association with magnificent sapphire beaches and many surrounding attractions which provide a lot of fun things to do in Jamaica.

“The hotel has over 800 rooms and can host two to three guests per room”, the sales executive, states to kareemsquest.com, making this a very large scale hotel. The enormous Riu hotel  “is like two hotels in one”. It is a combination of club and palace packages which are two of the three packages trademarked to all Riu Hotels worldwide.

This resort is only one of the four branches in Jamaica of the Riu Hotels and Company consortium. However “It is the only hotel, at this time, which has a combination of club and palace suites which both differ in the layout of the rooms and their amenities”, states general manager. It was also added that Riu Ocho Rios houses a conference center which can accommodate up to 300 persons. (Click the image below to see where RIU ranked on our Top 5 All Inclusive list)

The restaurants and activities

There are several buffets on the property which open at different times, along with different themed restaurants that cater to reservations only. Selecting food is a real mind boggling experience, as there is a wide variety of dishes to choose from. They cater to meat lovers and vegetarians and also have a large option of drinks to choose from, as there are also several bars on the property. As it pertains to the bars, armbands are used to not only differentiate the type of package a guest has, but also the difference between an adult and a teenager (under 18) when visiting the bar.

The resort has a gym, spa and disco lounge. Each aimed at giving Riu guests a very relaxed and fun environment to de-stress. When kareemsquest.com visited the Renova Spa it had a clean, crisp and fresh smell due to the presence of lemon grass incense throughout the establishment.

A warm, jovial and very professional staff awaits to offer relaxing massages, facials and also hair and nail packages. The well equipped gym is also a part of the Renova Spa. The variety of equipment gives endless possibilities to creating and staying with your workout program.

The night comes alive in the “Pacha”, a disco in the hotel. The resident DJ keeps the vibes going and the party rocking between 11 pm- 2am. Disco lights and fog machines add to the excitement and the allure of the “Pacha”.
