From Jamaica to Miami: Journalist gets invitation from Porsche

Written by Kareem LaTouche

I have always been interested in visiting Porsche headquarter in Miami, the city of sun and fun. As a journalist from Jamaica, I was used to the tropical weather and the laid-back vibe, but I wanted to experience something different. Something more exciting and glamorous.

That’s why I was thrilled when kareemsquest.com got an invitation from the team at Porsche Latin America to attend their Porsche Lifestyle Experience, a three-day event where I could test drive their latest models and mingle with other journalists from the Caribbean. It sounded like the perfect opportunity to combine work and pleasure.

I arrived in Miami on a Tuesday morning and checked into my hotel at Biscayne Boulevard.

The view from my window was stunning: skyscrapers, palm trees, and the blue ocean and I immediately felt a surge of energy and anticipation. I couldn’t wait to get started.

The Fun begins

The first day of the event was dedicated to the new 911 Targa 4 GTS, a sleek and sporty convertible that combined the best of both worlds: a coupe and a cabriolet. We were divided into groups and assigned a car each. I got to drive a Shark Blue Targa with red brake calipers and a black top. It comes with a 3-litre twin-turbocharged engine that produces 473 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, which is matted to an eight-speed PDK transmission.

We drove along the scenic roads of Miami straight to Naples, which you can watch in our video below. The Targa handled beautifully, with a smooth and powerful engine and a responsive steering. One of the main contributing factors to this quality ride, is the all-wheel-drive system with 20-inch rims at the front and 21 inch at the rear.

We stopped at various locations to take pictures and videos for our articles and to post on kareemsquest.com. We also had lunch at Campiello, a beautiful Italian restaurant, where we chatted with the Porsche representatives and learned more about the features and history of the various models.

Moving on to the next one

The second day was focused on the Porsche Macan, a compact SUV that offered versatility and performance. We switched cars and groups, and I got to drive a Papaya Metallic Macan with a GTS package. It comes with a powerful 2.9-litre V6 bi-turbo engine, which pushes out 434 horsepower.

The Macan handled the terrain effortlessly, with a high ground clearance and an off-road mode. The interior is filled with Carbon Fiber and leather with Papaya stitching, which gives it a prestigious and sporty look. It also had a lot of technology and comfort inside, such as a touchscreen infotainment system and a panoramic sunroof.

We drove to the Everglades Airboat Tour, where we explored the natural beauty and wildlife of Florida.

We were also treated to a tour of the area on an airboat, where we spotted several alligators and dozens of species of birds.

Coming to a close

The third day was the grand finale of the event and for kareemsquest.com, I got to drive the Taycan, pronounced ‘Tie – Can.’ Painted in a colour called frozen blue metallic, with a panoramic glass roof, it pushes out 590 horsepower with 626 pound-feet of torque. The team wished we could have taken it on a track, so we could push it to its limit.

This was a great assignment, as I got to drive three incredible cars, meet some wonderful people, and discover a new city. I also got to write an article for kareemsquest.com that will hopefully inspire my readers to follow their dreams.

I left Miami with a smile on my face and a memory card full of photos and videos!
